Listing Guidelines

Introduction

Sellers acknowledge and agree to adhere to the points outlined in this Listing Policy. Non-compliance may lead to your listing not being approved or content being removed and/or excluded from promotions, advertising, and/or other remedial actions as deemed necessary by MMP. Following these requirements will allow you to gain the most impact from your advertisements as well as for MMP to promote your products (including from outside of the platform, attracting new customers to your listings/products).

Product title requirements

  1. Title formatting:
    1. Only capitalise the first word and known brand names.
    2. Using all capital letters or all lowercase letters is prohibited.
    3. Refrain from using special characters such as exclamation marks, asterisks, and hashtags in the product title.
    4. Consider using hyphens (-) when separating information.
    5. Use measurement abbreviations such as kg (kilogram), mm (millimetres), etc., if/where required.
    6. Avoid referring to the condition of products eg new or used as this is covered in the condition dropdown field.
  2. Descriptive and concise titles:
    1. Be descriptive and convey the key features and attributes of the product in the title.
    2. Avoid irrelevant information and ensure the title accurately represents the item.
    3. Avoid referring the user to read the description below
    4. If applicable, include the brand name before the product title and model compatibility (where applicable at end). e.g. “Hella headlights for Golf 3”.
    5. Add additional information (where required/applicable) identifying the product you are selling, such as "kitchen table" or "outdoor chair".
    6. You may include a reference to colour in the title if that is the only colour option available for the particular product.

  1. Promotional language:
    1. Avoid any promotional type language: Product titles should not contain promotional phrases, such as "Best Deal" or "Limited Time Offer."
    2. Misrepresenting brand names or other words to attract buyers to listings is strictly not allowed.
    3. Avoid mentioning the RRP (Recommended retail price) e.g. "Retail: R4,999.00" as buyers can use their own tools to determine the saving they may get from buying the product from you.

Description requirements

Your item description is one of the most important parts of your listing because it helps buyers decide whether to buy your item and what to expect if they do. Write informative and accurate product descriptions. Highlight the key features, specifications, and any relevant information that customers may need to know.

  1. Describe only the product itself:
  1. Don't provide your business’s history or policies.
  2. Don’t include comparisons or details about other products. For example, "even better than X." Let customers research other products independently.
  3. Don’t include links to your store or other websites.
  1. Formatting & Structure:
  1. Structure product descriptions with clear paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on a specific aspect, making it easy for shoppers to find relevant details.
  2. Maintain uniform formatting by utilising a consistent format for product descriptions. Avoid excessive use of bold, italics, or colour. Formatting should enhance readability, not detract from it. Bold, italics, and colour should be used sparingly and purposefully to emphasise key points. Overuse may lead to a cluttered and distracting appearance.
  3. Restrict colour to highlight important information - if using colour, limit it to highlight critical details or calls to action. Avoid using multiple colours within a single sentence or paragraph.
  4. Maintain a standard font size for consistency and readability. Avoid excessively large or small fonts.
  1. Drawing attention:
    1. Avoid drawing attention by using all caps, symbols, and promotional text. Learn more about the editorial & professional requirements.
    2. Don’t use special characters to draw the buyer’s attention. This technique is common in spam and untrustworthy product listings. For example: (ಠ_ಠ).
    3. Don’t use capital letters for emphasis. Capitalized text is common in spam and untrustworthy product listings. Use capitalization when appropriate, including abbreviations, countries, and currency.
    4. Don’t include promotional text such as price, sale price, sale dates, shipping, delivery date, other time-related information, or your company’s name.

Image requirements

  1. Use clear, well-lit images that accurately represent the product:
    1. A blurry, undefined or distorted image is considered poor quality and is not allowed.
    2. Use high-quality images, ideally 1000 x 1000 pixels or larger
    3. Accurately display the entire product with minimal or no product staging.
    4. For the main image, make sure your image shows all included products if in a bundle
  2. Don't use a placeholder or an image that doesn't show your product:
    1. Don't use a generic image, graphic, or illustration that is not the actual product image.
  3. Don't use an image that contains promotional elements or content that covers the product. This includes:
    1. any overlay, for example, watermarks, brand names, logos
    2. service-related information such as extended warranty
    3. free shipping
    4. promotional adjectives, for example, best, cheap
    5. condition or compatibility, for example, new, 2-piece, adaptable
